Exclamation 2wd front spindle nut and bearings

It's been a while since I have been on here, I just simply haven't had any problems with my truck. Anyway, 64,000 miles and the pass side front wheel bearings are bad. I spent an hour searching for what I am about to ask for, so please help me out if you can. I measured the front spindle nut and it measures 1.58, between 1 9/16 and 1 5/8. It is also over 40 mm, 40.24 to be exact. I went to Sears and tried a 1 5/8 and it just seems too big, and no one seems to stock a 40mm or 1 9/16 for me to try. What have you guys used to get the blasted nut off with? BTW, I bought a nut at the dealer to take around and try to find the right socket. Also, the bearings in the hub say right on them to not dissasemble. OK, then why is there a very convenient snap ring so you CAN remover the bearings? I realize there must be a reason why they don't want the local half-wit shade tree grease monkey trying to change the bearings, but I am very far removed from being one of them Would Timken even sell such a bearing to the public with such a warning on it. Sorry for the long post, somebody shed some light!

as far as i know the bearings are not available seperate from the hub... you have to buy the hub assembly. it comes with bearings that are sealed. and they are not cheap.....https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...wheel+bearings

Yeah, my dealey want $265 for the hub and bearings, and I am prepared to pay it, if I have to. I am most concerned with what size the spindle nut is. I may have to find a Snap On or Matco truck to try out sockets.

The price is good, my local dealer wanted $380 for the part. But the nut is 41mm and the torque spec is 280 ft lbs. You may find the socket in 3/4 drive at Sears, or try NAPA.

I may be all wet here, but Oreilly's lists the bearings for the 2500. At least for my '99. I notice you guys have '02s.
What years are hub-replacement only?

Thanks, Ironbutt. I got the socket today from Mcmaster Carr for $24. I went to change the hub today and found that the nut was loose! I find that kind of odd considering the wheel rotation should tighten the nut on the passenger side. Anyway, I put the new nut on, torqued it to specs and everything is fine. My dealer listed my hub as fitting 2000-2002. The 1999 is probably a different #. Thanks to everyone for their excellent advise!

You are correct, I checked an online dealer and 00 to 02 are different, they don't list separate bearings.

We talk going from $ 45.00 inner+outer for up to '99, to $ 195.00 for a complete hub from 00 to 02.....that's quite a difference
