Giday' eh! I'm new to the 2nd gen world, just picked up a 1998 24v 5spd 4x4. Quadcab short box, with 60000 original miles! And it's not a 53 block.

My question is after reading all the info in the forums, I'd like to check the lift pump before I kill my vp 44, is there a way to check it without a gauge? I'd like to install a gauge, what do you recommend?

any shop with a fuel pressure test gauge can do it in 5 min.
you can also bump the starter and open the bleed screw and see if its pumping good but that still wont give you pressure reading

 

If it's the original lift pump you might just consider going ahead and replacing it with something better.....Not really worth the risk in my opinion.....My original pump starting losing pressure at only 30k....ISSPRO makes some nice gauges.....
