Re:24v idle time

The reason is "cylinder washdown", which is caused from lack of combustion chamber heat. You'll find many different opinons on idle time, I don't let mine idle more than 15-20 minutes.

Later, Rob

EDIT: Welcome to the site, and nice choice in transmissions! ;D

Re:24v idle time

I am new at this also, had my truck for a whole month now ;D as i understand it you can let it idle all day as long as the rpm's are brought up to 1200 to 1500. psdieselproducts.com has a plug&play unit that will do this for around 200.00 buckeroos

rob
I start mine on cold mornings, I let it idle for two minutes. ( Two or three minutes longer if I forget to plug it in), and then go.

NEVER, EVER let you motor idle for long periods. I made the mistake of doing that in the begining. You risk contaminating your oil and clogging up the combustion chamber with soot.

Those of you letting your beast idle for long periods of time...do you see your oil getting black before it should?

Re:24v idle time

I wouldn't let it idle for much more than 10 mins or so without an e-brake or a high idler. However with my high idler I often let it run for 2 or 3 days without turning it off at all as I am often without a plug in and the temps can be -25*F and below. Also my oil is black right after it goes in Red 121572. I believe its always been that way since I've had it and I got it new.
