24 valve EGR question???

I have been seeing a lot of talk about guys disconnecting their EGR valves on third gens and getting better mpg and a cleaner running motor. Maybe this is a dumb question and if so let me know.

Is this something 2nd gen trucks can benifit from?? If so and I missed something how do I disconnect it with out throwing a code??

Yup, 07.5 and up 6.7's were the first CTD's to receive all that junk.

california 24V's got EGR. look at DieselPower's "Budget 12 valve" theres a big hose that runs across the top of the motor, kinda hard to miss i think

I have a CA 24 valve. Could please explain this a little more. I could not figure out exactly where you're talking about.

Calif. 24V 2nd Gen trucks do not have EGR. I'm with CTD NUT and I believe the 07.5's 6.7's were the first 24 valves to have cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation. I have an '02 Calif. 24 valve and it doesn't have EGR.
Regards, Mike.

California 12 valves had EGR, California 24 valves did not. They passed emissions without it.

Thats my understanding of it.

Lotta bad rap about the VP44, but it runs clean enough for CARB without a EGR & Catalytic converter.

94-98 12 valves with the California emissions package were the only ones to get the EGR and they are very easy to identify they have a big tube with a heat wrap on it running from the intake manifold over the valve covers and into the rear of the exhaust manifold. And as a bonus you got the cat too.

Actually it was '96.5 thru '98 (or until the 24V was introduced) CA 12 valve that had EGR. I had a '95 CA truck and it did not have EGR. The manual transmission CA version was also detuned by 35hp and 20 torque.

96-98

Power (SAE net)
215 bhp @ 2600 rpm - 49 state manual
180 bhp @ 2500 rpm - all auto. trans
180 bhp @ 2500 rpm - CA man. trans

Torque (SAE net)
440 lb-ft @ 1600 rpm - 49 state manual
420 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm - all auto. trans
420 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm - CA man. trans -

Mine did have a cat however.

My grandpa bought a 94 brand new 2wd 5spd truck. It had EGR & a cat on it. It also had really small exhaust pipe on it. It looked exactly like a gas truck exhaust pipe. The truck was bought brand new in nw AZ close to Cali. I never did understand why it had what looked like a gas truck exhaust on it?
Later,
Tommy
