2002 Powr Lok

I've got a 2001.5 or 2002 Powr Lok in the rear diff of my truck. I wanted rear disc brakes in my '95 and so found a 2001.5/2002 disc rear end and swapped it into my truck several years ago. I'm thinking about replacing the clutches now and I was wondering if anyone here has done that job. Did you need to spread the case? Any tips?

I never needed to use it, I just would mark the caps then loosen the bolts. Put a wrench on the ring gear bolt rotate the powr lok until it stops turning then use a pry bar under the powr Lok and pry it out. They will usually come right out. Mark the races if you plan to reuse them, left and right side.

I've just used a couple pry bars and they have come right out. Be careful and brace the carrier so it doesn't fall as it is pretty heavy. But you knew that already.

Thanks Fellas! Mine needs the clutches. But it's not having any bad symptoms yet except it's not working much. Had my mechanic take a look at it a few days ago and he said spider gears are good--it just needs clutches/steels. His labor price was $385 so I guess I'll be doing them myself!
