2002 Maintainence Info
2002 Maintainence Info
I am going to be in the market for a 2002 soon and was wondering what you guys spend on an average year for maintainence. Also, how much do you spend per year/week on fuel. I realize this answer is going to be different for everyone because of fuel prices but I would just like a ball park figure. Thanks.
I have two full years of data, 2003 and 2004. In 2003, I drove 16380 miles and used 1030 gallons of fuel at a total cost of $1565.62. In 2004, I drove 15073 miles and used 892 gallons of fuel at a total cost of $1356.45. The average cost of the fuel works out to $1.52 both of those years, but I'm betting that it'll be 15-20 cents higher during 2005. Overall, I'm getting 16.43 mpg. My daily commute is not very conducive to good fuel mileage--I drive about 4 miles to work, half surface streets and half freeway, meaning that the truck barely gets warmed up at all.
Maintenance costs are roughly $29 per oil change. That's three gallons of Rotella at a bit more than $6/gallon and a Fleetguard filter at around $9. Changing every 5,000 miles means three changes per year for a total of $87/year. Add $11 for a fuel filter every other oil change, averages to $18.
I'm not counting tires, since my factory Michelins are still pretty decent and would be better if I was good about rotating them. But I just put D25 coils on and I'm planning on 35's, so I've neglected them.

That is great info!! Thanks. I would also be looking to put d25 coils on and some 35s. How much are the coils? Also, what is your axle gear ratio? Do you have the 6 spd? Thanks!!
The D25s are $150 at Summit Racing, which is about the best price I could find. I have the 3.54 rear end, and yep, it's a six-speed (that's the "DEE" in my sig). Overall, I'm really pleased with the mileage. My '98 1500 with the 5.2l and five speed only managed around 12.5-14 on the same commute, and of course it wouldn't haul or pull anywhere near the load this thing will.
Sorry, I am not quite up to par with all of these component codes yet. You basically have the exact truck that I want, except I want the quad cab. Thanks for the great info!!

I recommend if you tow get the 4:10 gears but if not make sure its the 3:54 will save you $$ in diesel. I have the 4:10 which I didn't need but I went crazy
when I filled out the order sheet checked almost everything off
