2001 cummins electrical problem? need so advise
i have a 2001 dodge cummins 5 speed, and out of the blue it has no power, idles fine, but around 1800 rpm it starts missing popping chuggin, smoking black, once u let off goes back to idling just fine, wont go over 30 mph, ive been doin alot of reading on here about problems close to mine but none seem to be quite right, cant remember the exact codes it threw but i know they were low voltage and a low fuel, on one post i read it said maybe the ecm plugs are not getting good contact, also that the alternator might not be making 12 volts or the little plug that comes out the alternator to the ecm plug, idk im not sure what this problem is never had this or heard of my problem if anyone has delt with this please feel free to respond thanks in advance

pull the codes again. U can pull them by doing the ignition key cycle. If u know how to do that. Post the codes. Our trucks can have major electrical gremlins easily with dirty or corroded connections. All grounds body and engine should be checked cleaned. The ecm connection checked too. It sounds like you have alot going on but it could come down to just some simple fixes. Basically if you have one bad connection that can pyramid other things. Post the codes in the order they appear. Put key in and turn key on then back and then forward again and then turn back and turn forward for the third time leaving it forward and on. The codes will appear on your odometer screen. There will be 2 series of codes that come up.

what about simple?
what's the fuel pressure? you do have a gauge right?.a low pressure sensor?
no..start there..or change the fuel filter..if its dirty to won't allow enough fuel above idle to run the truck..
what about the intake screen in the fuel pickup/sending up housing..is it clean??mine was so plugged it a full can of brake cleaner to remove the dirt.
ok so the 2nd suggestion might not be so simple..
