juicin up a girl's cummins! need advise

alright im kinda new to the cummins world but im learning fast. i have a friend, who is a girl, that is getting a 01 cummins with a stick. now im no newbie to diesels, i know you need guages right off before you do much. my question is what are some cheap mods i can do myself to her truck to juice it up. im good at hands on stuff so thats no problem. she wants the big exhaust and chip etc.. but her money is short. first thing im gonna due is cut out the muffler and cat and maybe add a good air filter, anybody know a good replacement? any other simple mods such as a way to add boost etc...

An, EZ would be good for starters. Just remeber the gauges. She'll want more power after she gets bit by the bug.

BHAFs are pretty cheap, and will give a nice whistle. Pull the silencer ring out of the turbo too, for some more noise.

Boost elbows are an easy way of getting boost, but without a boost fooler, its gonna hurt you more than help. If the ECM sees more than ~21 psi of boost, it starts defueling.

Does she have a sister?!?! LOL

nah, get the gauges, check the fp then go from there. The ez will be a good cheap start.

Or she can decide what hp she wants and do it right the first time.

For the big exhaust I'd check out ebay, they have straight 4" for like $205 plus shipping and 5" for $250-ish.

boost elbow? i know you can usually put a resistor on the boost sensors to give more boost but how much will it raise her boost with a 10k resistor. i know a cummins can handle quite a bit of boost so im not to worried

The wastegates on the Cummins are mechanical. On the compressor, there will be a brass elbow. A boost elbow is exactly the same, but has a smaller orifice in it, which will hold the wastegate shut until a higher pressure is reached. There are adjustable ones on Ebay for $15, that you can adjust with an allen key.
