no need to if the APPS is setting a code.
if you need a new one Timbo has one (160$) delivered
here is a must read thread on APPS, post # 3 has a link to timbo to get his plug and play, there is also a few diagrams and pin outs in this thread

I have an 01 and buying the TIMBO APPS did not solve my problem. I am pretty sure it kicks ****, but as of right now i am unable to feel its potential.
I am currently tracing back the wires from the harness to the ECM to see if i have a short. I will keep you all posted

did you have a code that indicated a failed APPS?
I did not have it initially. I replaced my VP44 and still had dead pedal. I checked the codes and there it was P0122. I purchased the TIMBO APPS and i still have dead pedal.
You can read my previous posts if you would like to catch-up on what's going on with my truck.
If you have a P0122 code, than I would say to run diagnostics as you had planned on existing APPS.
I will keep you posted on what i find.
