2000 stalled while driving
My 2000, 3500 has always started easily and run well. Saturday I filled the tank and went about 50 miles to an auction. On the way back, about 35 miles from home it suddenly stopped running. Batteries are well charged and starter turns as usual but no fire. Don't see any leaks. I replaced the lift pump a year ago at 135,000 and have 156,000 now. Can't find any blown fuses. Last Thurs ran 80 for about 5 miles to blow the mud wasps out of the exhaust. Was driving about 45 when it quit. Dave
Thanks for the replies. Didn't expect the pump to be the problem. Know a guy in Michigan who used to be good with pumps but he is around 80 now and not getting around too well. Don't know anyone here in Arkansas who can fix it.
I believe you can check codes on the 2000 with the ignition switch, on-of, on-off, on. then it reads in the odometer. Check the lift pump pressure & fuel filter too. If it is VP44 time, check out Bluechip, at least , that is what I think they are called. they put in new computers. Do a search here on VP44,if you do need one . Lot's of reading.
Good luck with your truck!!!
Get a FP gauge, if you do not have one. Genos is a good place for that.

I tried a scanner and got codes p1688 & p1689 as johnh mentioned. Didn't think to check the fuel filter, will do that tomorrow. Is there more than one fuel filter? Just bought fuel and drove about 50 miles before it quit. Have not checked fuel pressure but truck was starting easy, plenty of speed and power on hills, no excess smoke. Can the computer on the pump be changed without changing the pump?
the computer cannot be replaced, dont waste your time with the fuel filter swap trying to trouble shoot, With the 2 codes your showing your VP is toast, took me 2hrs first time I did one, lots of "how to on the net"
You might want to look into testing fuel pressure and mounting a gauge in the cab, in my opinion "spot" testing is useless.
replace the fuel filter and possibably the LP when you replace the VP
heres a way diagnois your pump.
