2000 CTD possible purchase?
2000 CTD possible purchase?
I looked at a 2000 CTD today. 4X4, Auto, quad cab. Trucks runs and drives flawless. It is a 2 owner. The recent owner has had it a year and added gages (Trans temp, EGT, boost). I got on it hard and EGT maxed at 900, trans temp never went over 170 and boost was between 20-24. Truck has minor oil leak which I think is the oil pan. Both differentials seem to be leak free. Underside looks great and it has a new stock fuel pump. Truck has 180K on it. What else should I look for? Is 9K a good deal. Exterior/interior is amazing
The 170* on the tranny would bother me a bit.
How long and where did you drive it and where is the temp gauge hooked up.... (pan or in the 'hot line'). Big difference. Pan temps will stay much lower and take longer to max out. Cruising on hwy should be I think no higher than 140*, in clear air, on a factory tranny.
That total mileage is a common distance for auto tranny problems to start showing up, especially if oversized tires.
EGT gauge hooked up pre or post turbo? 900* is excellent for pre turbo but high for after turbo hookup.
Did you test 4x4 ..... high and low range?
3.55 or 4.10 gears?
If tranny is good...it's the high side of fair price.... at least around Texas.

Do a quick survey of common problems fuel, /VP, steering, cracked dash, bus/ecm etc and you'll have an idea of what to expect - unless you think THIS truck is special. The same problems came up repeatedly at 100,000 mi +. $2,000 in parts will fix most. Tires are $6 - $700 stock size.

The trans probe is hook up in the "HOT LINE". EGT hooked up Pre Turbo
I tested both high and low 4X4 ranges and they worked flawlessly with no grinding. 3:55 gears.
Tranny seems to be great but thats why i asked for advice,.
