Question 2000 ??

I am looking at a 2000 Dodge, Sport Model equipped with Cummins engine, 4x4, Auto, Quad Cab, Short Box, fully loaded with all options with approximately 60,000 km and in absolutely mint condition.

Other than the Block 53 and lift pump problems, what other things are potential problems with the 2000 trucks?

If I do acquire the truck I would also like to replace the manual trailer folding mirrors with smaller power heated mirrors. Is this possible?

2000 dodge

ALK. I have a 2k and if you look here on the search i am sure you will find some stuff to look for.I have had my vacum pump done under warranty for a seal, that was spendy for the warr folks so check that area out .Look for a possible rear main leak mine has not but some have in the 24v. I also had a recall for weak trailer hitch that had to be beefed up. The other things that have happened were a complete instrument replacement i think that was due to welding we did and not unhooking the battery cables.I would do the normal checks on the rig and look for seals and that stuff ,maint, etc.i am happy with my truck over all.

Just check out the regular stuff you would on any vechile, seals, oil leaks, u- joints... Also make sure that the tranny is not slipping. You could ask for maintainance records also. good luck

Some had brake problems (pulling to the right while braking), some had loose steering complaints, squeeking under the left side of the dash while turning or braking, leaks around the oil pan due to loose pan bolts, premature ball joint wear due to no grease fittings, some get rotton smell from the A/C unit due to debris collecting in the heater core unit.

That 53 block thing seems to be bigger than first expected though. Been reading of quite a few cracking lately. That may be #1..

WIth all that negative stuff being said, mine has been a very good truck for 104k so far. Had a bad pilot bearing at about 88k. Now just sprung an oil leak behind the oil filter, probably a loose filter, or turbo return hose, shouldnt be a big deal. Good Luck.

Make sure to look for an oil filter that is approved by cummins (mopar, wix, fleetgaurd, and so on). If not, then walk away. All this would mean is trouble with warrenty after you bought the truck. Trust me, dealers like to stick it to you like this. Just my $.02.
