200 Deg. Thermostat

Has anyone here tried a 200 degree thermostat in their truck? I've got a couple years on my current thermostat and was going to order one just to keep on hand.

I see that Geno's Garage has a 200 deg thermostat intended for the 2010-2012 6.7L trucks. It appears like it'll probably fit the older engines, and looks like it might actually flow more coolant when it's fully open.

Just curious if anyone's actually tried it. I'm not worried about cold weather temps--I have a good winter front to help with that, and with my Gates 190 deg thermostat things work just fine in the cold weather. I'm looking to see if it might help engine efficiency a little bit.

Thanks,
Mike

I've run a 190 on mine as long as I have owned the truck. The last one stuck open and it wouldn't come off the lefthand side normal line on the gauge in August in Montana running at hiway speeds so I replaced it and haven't had any issue since.

Will +10 degrees get you any noticeable gains?

There have been a few forum members who tried the 200* thermostat for fuel efficiency experiments. It seemed to work too but was not conducive for towing conditions in the summer because the added 10* would create a consistently hotter running engine than just the 10* increase.
The 190* in the 2nd gen seems to be perfect...

Sorry for the delay in replying to this one. Yes, my reasoning was to get a tiny bit of fuel milage increase. I figured since it's so easy to change the thermostat, there's no real reason not to try it. If it causes any issues, then two bolts and 10 minutes later I can be back to my 190 degree thermostat.

Thanks for the replies!

The only issue I could see by constantly swapping out thermostats is the potential of letting in air pockets which can sometimes be a bugger to purge out.
