1998 cummins that has be retrofitted into a chevy

hi guys have a question.. was looking at this rollback, a project.. he put in a 98 cummins, along with a new 5spd, into a 96 chevy rollback.. he said he did not use the computer from the dodge, he said it didnt need it? what kinda features or other issues might i have with out the computer.. this is still in the project stage but is almost complete.. minor things are left.. motor and tranny are all togather.. shifter through the floor lingages hooked up etc.. i hope i posted in the right section

Depends, if it is a 12V, no computer is needed, 24V won't run without a computer. They changed in mid year 1998, so we need to know more info before we can say much more.

Speedometer will need the GM speed sensor - cruise will need the '88-'93 GM V6 module or aftermarket - '88-'93 GM throttle cable fits later trucks - use the Cummins engine oil cooler\pipes - DMax charge-air cooler can be shoehorned in to fit - may need to adapt the Dodge clutch master cylinder

I believe the NV4500 is used on Chevy also, so it shouldn't be a problem bolting to a Cummins. I agree it has to be a 12v to be computer free.

Many school busses ,delivery vans were Chevy with 5 speed NV4500 and had Cummins 4BT and 6BT on them.

In fact Frito lay vans use the 4 cyl Cummins.

here is the deal... the cummins is mounted.. it is a 12v..to a brand new "zf5" 5 speed".. they had to buy a custom bell housing.. and input shaft.. its all in the truck and lines up... whats left to be done... the drivshaft he said had to be shortened by around 3 inches... then of course the exhaust has to be done.. the radiator and intercooler and wiring.. here are a few pics of the truck and some of the stuff..he also recommended a vulcan fuel pump?.. he is sending me the pics soon of the cummins mounted.. here are some pics..

12V 53 block!!

This truck is clearly a 53 block. From what I understand they were put in a few 12v's. I would definately shy away from this deal, unless you like sitting on a $7000 time bomb. They are prone to cracking, ecspecially if they are bombed or used to tow alot. Zoom in on the pic

kinda hard to tell.. but it looks like it... then again, i also heard that no 12v 53 blocks have ever cracked.. just the 24v ones, they were saying the 24v motors put off a differant vibration

Thats interesting, never heard that. The more I think about it, with all the work that went into it, if you really want a chevy rollback with a cummins in it, why not?
