1998.5 24valve Cummins won't start
Alright gentlemen, brain picking time, I recently bought a 1998.5 3500 with the 24 valve in it, 55 engine block, FASS fuel system and Edge programmer, I bought the truck (cheap) non running, I have good fuel pressure to the injection pump and have fuel to the injectors, the return line had a aftermarket quick disconnect that the o ring in it was shot and leaking, I cut that out and replaced the line from the steel line on the side of the engine to the good steel line under the truck on the frame, so no leaks, but the truck still wont start, I reconditioned a couple batteries to put in it so im wondering if low voltage is part of the problem or if its the crankshaft position sensor down by the starter, The only codes the programmer is reading is P0230, P1689, and P1698 any ideas? Any and all info would be helpful

Well P0230 is not good- since you suspect your "reconditioned" batteries I suggest that you try with really good batteries- the 5.9 Cummins is very dependent on good supply while starting.
About 1689 - still batteries, but if good batteries do not help- a code for no communication would hint towards a wire broken or disconnected, or some part on the bus shot.. +
The 1698 points towards a defective Edge module, but a test without the module and with good batteries would be nice.
