12V power vs. 24V power

I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right forum, but I'll try it here. My 96 seem to be very sluggish compared to my 01. It feels like it is restricted somehow during acceleration. I am thinking the cat is plugged. Can I remove it? I don't really know what else to look for. I don't have gauges for it yet so I don't know about FP. Do the 12v engines have FP problems also?

Thanks,

Cole

Have you changed the fuel filter and the screen on the mechanical pump since their is no lift pump. you might also want to post this on the the 12v forum

Looks like your 96 would outweigh your 01 by a little? My two run fairly close as far as power goes. I dont pull the trailer with my 3/4 ton, but it runs fairly well, for all but stock. Might change the filters and screen, 86 the pipe restrictors, and go from there.

Re:12V power vs. 24V power

Contractor:

I own a 96' Dodge 12 valve CTD and a 2002 Dodge 24V
CTD also. The trucks do have different "powerbands".
The other members have given you some good advice
of things to check.

My 96' had a VERY badly plugged catalytic converter
back when it had around 95,000 miles on it. It also felt
"sluggish". I ordered a "catalytic converter test pipe"
from my Dodge dealer part #52019170AB. This "test
pipe" was developed so the Dodge Technicians could
check to see if a cat was bad on the diesel trucks that
had them. It fit EXACTLY in where my cat was originally
installed! As I recall it cost around $50.00. After
installing the test pipe the truck felt like new again!!
I cut my cat open and found out it was plugged up
pretty bad with black soot and carbon!! It looked
like chunks of "Kingsford Charcoal Briquets!!!!" ;D

Anyway, hope this has helped you some! I eventually
went to a full 4" exhaust on my 96', but the "test
pipe" does work good!
