03 block to replace cracked 53 in 99 possible??

Can you replace a 99 block with an 03 short block?? I have a good crank and all the associated pieces from my cracked "53" block. I know the 03 does not have the crank sensor but does it have a hole for it?? Can I just use my 99 crank, head and front cover and use the block pistons and rods from the 03??
Thanks!

u will need the ecm from whatever u swap in there (if its not a 99) just because the block might have the hole pluged doesn't mean it has the tone ring on the crank for the ckp to work.

Why would I need the ECM from the 03?? I can use the old 99 crank that already has the tone ring attached and all the sensors from the 99 if they will go on the 03 block.

Make sure it has the hole for the crank sensor. They cast over the lift pump hole thats in the 2nd gen blocks, so the crank hole might be gone too. Don't worry about the ECMs, since you'll be using the same sensor points. An 03 ECM won't work since you're sticking with the VP.

I know a guy who has a few engine blocks for 2nd gen trucks. He was looking for a 3rd gen, don't know if he found one. He may trade you.

I haven't purchased the 3rd gen short block yet. A local yard has one with a lite fire on top and I thought it would be a good candidate for replacement in my 99 if I could make it work...
