01.5 6spd problem

Hi,

On the truck in my sig when up shifting from 3rd-4th somtimes it grinds going into 4th with the clutch pushed to the floor, but you can usually pull it in. When downshifting from 4th-3rd going into 3rd it grinds each time to make it go in you need to release the clutch and push it in again and then it will slip in. Would this be the clutch going or the sychronizers(sp?)?

The truck has 105,xxx miles on it,when we bought it had 28,xxx miles on it(bought it about 3 years ago). From the day it left the lot till now it has be use to plow snow, pull trailer weighing 12,000lbs,and it was usaully loading with prolly close to 2,000lbs of tools and in the winter it always had a 8ft V-box salter on the back when loaded it probly topped 3,000lbs. So looking back on what it has been used for it leads me to believe it could be the clutch.

Thanks
Jeff

To The Top.

If it is the clutch and sugg. on a new clutch for it? Its will be close to stock for atleast another year(meaning not any major hp/tq improvements).

Thanks

sounds like sychros, check the oil level and try changing the fluid
the oil is supposed to be a life time oil but many have changed the oil with good results . oils to use would be 1 dealer 2 amsoil 3 red line MTL prolly more out there but these are good oils

Well the only dealer around is 55 miles away so i guess i will try either amsoil or redline, have to stop at the local brake service to see what they have..I would rather change the oil and it fix it then spend the money on the clucth to find out that it was the oil..lol

Thanks

its your syncros. mines doing the same thing. ive had mine apart once and i have to take it apart again. it still aint fixed right yet. the bearings and syncros will run you around $850 if you do it yourself. or a whole lot more if you have someone else do it. or you can buy a rebuilt trans.

Well I am gonna try changing the fluid first, I would like to hold off on changing the sychros and bearing since this truck might get solde and i might get a 12v because of registration(see other thread in the Other forum)...

if your trans oil looks like it has gold in it , your synchro`s are going or gone.

Well I am not to worried about it at the moment cause i rarely downshift through the gears.I only notice 4th every so often, I got to wiat a few more days for the sun to dry up the ground some more so i can crawl under the truck.

Thanks

True, but it could also very well be your pilot bearing causing the shift problems.

Especially since you mentioned sowplow service, which means the clutch is pushed in a lot of the time. This is hard on the pilot bearing.

If you replace the clutch or take out the tranny for ANY reason, replace/upgrade the pilot bearing.

Quad4x4 (www.quad4x4.com) has the biggest, baddest pilot bearings you've ever seen, and you'll never have to touch it again.

Stock POS is on the left:

Well the truck has not had a plow on it since march of last year and this just started happening maybe 1-2 weeks ago, But then again the truck is used hard for plowing nothing like all 6 tires spining on wet pavement while pushing back snow pile about 10 feet high .

Now that i am hearing mixed things on the registration of the truck, i will wait to do anything till i see how much the truck will cost for reg.
