01 2500 cutting out at high rpm

01 2500 cutting out at high rpm
I have an 01 2500 5.9 Cummins 4x4 6 sp manuel HO. It just started cutting out at high rpm. Changed filter no chamge. May be my turn to change lift pump. Any advise, like do I need to drop tank to change it.
