Well, see for yourself, sure looks like a 00+ Fuel Filter assembly to me. The tuck was manufactured in 7-99, my biggest concern is if the engine is wired and programmed as a 2000 as well. Anyone has a clue?

Well I figured that out when I went to change the fuel filter and the one I bough didn't fit. I'm just wondering if the truck is dated a 99 but actually has a 2000 drivetrain, or if the dealership just swapped on a 2000 filter assembly. Anyone know how to check without taking it to the dealer?

 

Might be able to get the VIN ran and get the info for it. Umm I'm just trying to think if the Datalink port will be in a different position or the plug shape will be different itself from a 99, anyone help with this?

 

98.5-2000 were the same electronic wise. AFAIK

 

So... If I got an Edge Juice with Attitude for a 99, and this thing turns out to be a 99 with a 2000 drivetrain it'll still work right? haha

And I'm still wondering why a 2000 fuel filter assembly would be on a 99 truck.

 

My guess is they ran out of the old style filter canisters at the very end of production of the 99's and started putting the new style on. That's just a guess though...

Unless you've owned it from new, it's entirely possible that a previous owner replaced the original with the later one. The original style often develop a leak around the o-ring where the fuel heater wires enter it (mine did). It's not hard to fix, but some people in the past have been told by service departments that they need to replace the whole thing, which is about a gazillion dollars. I think the later model one, like you have, is considerably cheaper.

 

I went to get a replacement filter canister for my 99 when the fuel heater began to leak some air. The parts guy at the local Chrysler dealer said the old stuff, like pictured with the two banjos on top, were no longer available and that I would have to upgrade to the 00 setup.
He also mentioned that to do the work he was required to do the in-tank lp as well.
I heard all I could stand and then replaced the orings in my filter top (heater) and marched on.
Do you have the OEM Carter pump on the side of the block or has this had the in-tank...... upgrade?..

 

No, the carter pump is still on the side of the block... for now. I'm gonna end up replacing it with a Raptor or and Air Dog sooner or later. Is the big line kit still necessary for these style filters? I know the 98.5 and 99's had the old style which was pretty restrictive from what I hear, is that also the case with the 00+ filter assembly?

 

I ran into a worker at a dock that I was working at taking to him about diesel trucks his truck was there so I went to look at it found out it was a early 2000 made jan. some time, last of the 99 it had the same filter but it also had rear disk brakes?

Well its titled as a 99, and it shows a 99 on the owners manual...

I'm betting the PO had the fuel heater leak and had the dealer install a new unit, then they screwed him into buying a whole new filter assembly.

 

I too had a leaky heater wire and was told they quit making the old style. I took it apart and siliconed it up good and no leaky in over a year now.
