Zamboni Tires

I just worked something out. Our local arena has the old 16" tires off the Zamboni ice machine from the arena. They get rid of the tires when the steel studs get worn down. I just got six for my truck. The rubber has never touched the asphalt and is just like new. They have the same size, load rating and speed rating as a normal p215/75r/16 that the truck came with. I got a blister doing it but I saved myself a good chunk "o" change for tire replacement. Using my sidecutters, I pulled out the worn studs from the treads (NOT PRESSED ALL THE WAY THROUGH), power washed and scrubbed the tires with a good cleaner, sprayed a liberal amount of penetrating oil on the sidewalls to put some luster back into them and used my white tire lettering stick and created raised white letter tires. They really look good. I haven't put them on yet but I will be this weekend hopefully.
Best thing is most arenas will GIVE them to ya so they don't have to pay the tire disposal fee.
And yes we do have that here in Canada. We have tire disposal fees. Don't know if ya'll have it there in da U.S.
I'll post some pics ASAP.

Man what a find! You can't beat free. Instead of side cutters could you use the ones that cut across the ends kind of like horse hoof clippers? Might be easier on your hands. Could get a pair with all the bucks you saved.

That seems like a pretty sweet deal! What sort of tread pattern do they have? Is it a really aggressive snow tire or road tire or something in between?

Wow! My bother-in-law is the announcer for the local minor league hockey team. I'll have to give him a call. Thanks for the heads-up!

Wow! those are some aggressive looking tires. Lot's o' tread, too. Good deal all around, I'd say.

Coincidence

It's hard to see in the picture once I cropped and resized it but
Actually it's funny how the letters on the Cooper tires are marked.
"COOPER RADIAL CTD"
My question is ........How did Cooper know when they made the tires that I would be installing them on a "CTD" Cummins Turbo Diesel?
hehehehehehehehehehe

Looks like you got those tires just in time, your rear tires look like slicks!

Aha! So free tires will only encourage your bad habits.

When I was reading your first post, I thought you were just going to burn them down, but in the picture, those things are in perfect condition! Our arena never drives the zambonis (yeah, that's right we got 2 ) outside so they never wear out I got a bunch of free sandbags from them, though.

On a side note, hockey rinks can come in handy. If anybody plows, you can use the old rink boards for a moldboard if you want a poly plow. Saves a lot of $$$
