Is there more than one exhaust wheel for the 40?

Anybody drill out the divider? Bad idea?

I went from a HX35/16 to the HX40/16 I currently have. I didn't see any difference in spoolup between the two.

So is there any way to know what the wheel sizes the turbo has with just the tag? Or do you have to take the turbo apart and measure it to figure it out?

Yea I'd say you can spool an HX40 with stock injectors and a cranked up pump. As long as it has a 16cm housing.

On the ID thing, i'm not sure. I thought they all had the same comp. wheel and turbine dimensions. 60/65.

On PDR's spooling modifications:

I could be wrong, but I think they just port the housings a little to help with flow. I know a ported 18cm housing will spool almost as fast as a stock 14cm. Port the 14, and it will outspool a stock 12. Get my drift?

Ok, I know now that I need more turbo. After pulling the gooseneck and tractor this weekend, and not being able to leave 3rd or even get on the throttle, I need more air if I am ging to keep it turned up! I also found out that the new Valair clutch I installed less than a year ago (and less than 5000 miles) will not hold the power with a load on it! Talk about a rough weekend for my truck! I will be turning it down some for this weekend so I can at least pull the trailer above 45mph and then addressing the clutch with the installer and Valair!

I am going to do all I can to get a new one! I may even pay to upgrade some but I won't be spending the money again... at least not with Valair!

My buddy has a Valair clutch in his '02 2wd and is currently holding on to 425hp/920lb.ft.. Single disc, Kevlar button clutch 3600# plate, seems to do good on the street/strip/towing/dyno. Couple guys around here run them and seem to like them for what they cost.

Sorry for the highjack.

I had read and heard alot of good things about them, but after seeing my truck (in my sig) power through the clutch in 2nd & 3rd on anythig morew than level ground I am not impressed. I would doubt I have less then 225hp at the crank and this clutch was rated for 400 i think? So SOmething is not right with it!

I'm in the process still of getting my hx-40 on the manual truck, with bosch 190(basically stock) injectors, so we'll see how she runs.

yea cranked up pump with stock injectors means your shutoff solenoid will probably stop working and you'll have to use a cable hooked to the shutdown lever to turn the engine off
