Is it going into OD when you hooked up the plugs like I described?

If so, you don't need to do a thing to get TCLU, you ALREADY have the 12V at the trans.

All you need to do is ground the TCLU wire when you want it locked.

Ok, so pull your 12V from the previous center tap wire, no other 12V is necessary, then all you need is the 2 switches to provide ground for the 2 circuits.

Not only is it easier on you, it will make future troubleshooting using a wiring diagram easier,

From AJ's post "If the trans shop told you that they are wrong. Does it start off in first gear if you put it in neutral and then back to drive? If it does but doesn't down shift back to first after coming to a stop then most likely a governor valve is sticking, pretty common. If it never starts off in first after being put into drive from park or neutral then there are other problems. "

There's 30 years of dodge trans expertise working for you.

Try putting it in neutral while stopped, then back in drive and see if it takes off in first, but doesn't do it the next time taking off normally. If it does, then governor valve sticking.

If not, then tell AJ and see what he says next. There is a world of transmission experience on this forum, I'm just not one of them........

I have tried putting it in neutral then back to drive a few times but no luck. Also it doesn't downshift at all. Could it be a governor valve or something more serious? What's your 2 cents angry Johnny?

It's broke. Something ain't right. It's all mechanical, as the OD just flips the clutches in the OD unit, which is in the fat tailshaft part of the transmission. Same with the TC lockup, solenoid just locks it up. If the solenoid stays lit when you stop, it'll lug the engine down to stopped.

Everything else is just a mechanical/hydraulic 3 speed transmission.

Do you have throttle pressure cable adjusted properly and a return spring on it. The cable should be pushed all the way back at wide open throttle and return all the way forward at idle.

Yes the linkage is adjusted properly, I made sure of it when I put a new head gasket on the truck last winter

Okay, thanks for all the help. I'm still waiting on an answer from the trans shop. I'll let you know what it was once it's fixed...

Angry Johnny, the guys at the shop still havent figured out why it's not starting in first gear. He just tried telling there isn't enough voltage to the trans to start in first which is totally bogus. They said the throttle pressure cable needed adjusted.
