Will 3rd gen seats fit in a first gen....
Im looking at doing a seat upgrade in the ole cummins. My girlfriend cant stand the bouncyness of the stock bench seat and neither can I. After a migraine headache from a 12 hour drive to alabama and back from michigan I pretty much will pay any amount to have a more comfortable ride. How easy do the 2nd gens mount up. Anyone do 3rd gens yet???? I know there will have to be some sort of modification..
Thanks

id go with the second gens in a heatbeat, much more confortable and they have the seatbelt built into the seat which is the only way to go in my opinion, much safer.

To answer your question...Yes you can. Ive got them in mine. Pretty easy. Just had to cut off the 2 inner brackets of the front half, and use 2 pieces of angle for the outer brackets. For the rear, I just had to drill 2 holes for the studs that were on the seats. Are you a tall guy? These seats definitely sit a little higher than stock. As soon as I find one for cheap, Im gonna pull mine and retrofit some 05-06 chevy 40/20/40 seats in my truck. They are VERY comfortable, soft cloth, and a nice console.

My truck has the bench, the first thing we did when my Father-in-Law (original owner) was to take it to his cousin who did upholstering. He shaped a lumbar support into the bench and recovered it with cloth. My father in law had broken his back and could not stand the normal bench. It has been there for 200k. I got the truck in '98 and use it a bit in the summers hauling my trailer and ATV's around. I usually make 2 trips every summer with it to Yellowstone (800 round trip + incidental milage). I am comfortable enough in it unless my wife is driving. I am 6'2" and she is 5'2". I don't know what it would cost these days (this was done in '91). However, it might tide you over until you find the right seat.
One reccomendation is to try the seat out first by finding someone who owns and drives the same model as what you are going to get the donor from. I have sat on a lot of seats and my back can tell in short order if there is not enough support.
Just some thoughts, good luck to you!
BTW - rbrettcd - if you get that 40/20/40 installed, make mention of it. Sounds interesting.

Well I just went out and bought a 40/60 split out of a 06-07 CHEVY or GMC. Its tan leather and power everything. I got a good deal on the seat then got a call on some 04 Dodge Ram seats that were grey which will match my trucks interior more. If anyone is interested in my tan leather seats let me know. I will let em go for $50 less than what I paid for them yesterday. $200 takes em. I will email pictures.

ever consider finding some factory 1st gen buckets? i just replaced my 93 bench seat with the factory 1st gen buckets, and it was such an upgrade. more comfortable than my brothers 95 bucket seats IMO.

1st gen buckets rule! I have a bad back, and my Dodge is the first vehicle I've driven that I've been able to run more than a couple hours in without being messed up afterwards. I ran 12 hours almost nonstop last Thanksgiving and other than my butt being tired I was fine.
