Wheel Lug Nut Torque for 93 2WD

I need a reallity check from some of you out there with the same year as mine.

I hadn't really thought too much about it before, but up to now, I have always torqued my lug nuts to the standard 90 foot pounds. Tonight I was reading the workshop manual for my truck, and I discovered that for my rear axle (Dana model 60) the lug nuts which are 1/2" dia. coned nut, are supposed to be torqued to 200 foot pounds. Since then, I have been reading the manual to find the torque for the fronts and can't find a value anywhere, but I think they are supposed to be set to the regular 90 foot pounds.

Can it be true that the rears need to be torqued to 200 foot pounds?

John

If it makes you feel any better it says in my owners manual that for a 1-ton the lug torque is supposed to be 325#. Seems excessive to me I do always torque them to 150# haven't lost a wheel yet, knock on wood.

My '92 FSM lists the following values:

1/2 x 20 60* cone = 95 ftlbs
1/2 x 20 90* cone = 100 ftlbs (16" single wheel)
5/8 x 18 flanged = 325 ftlbs (DRW)

It seems that the 1st rating is for the front of 250's/350's & also possibly the rear of 250's while the 2nd rating is for the rear of 350's with SRW. The 3rd rating is self-explanatory.

What torque was used to cause them to break?
