Whats the proper gasket made of?

I put my 14cm WG housing on the other day, but when I got it, it had no gasket on the exhaust flange plate. I used some generic gasket material to make a gasket, but what should actually go there and what is it made of?

I haven't had one apart (YET) but I would imagine that they are made from the typical exhaust gasket material, you know the metal with the dimples in it, but like I said I'm not 100% on that.

Thin steel with an embossed sealing rib. Regular gasket material is going to burn out pretty quick.

I just had a garret apart that was on a 2000 powerstroke and it had no gasket in that area. Then again this is coming from an engine that doesn't have manifold gaskets from the factory.

Just to clarify, its not the exhaust flange to the manifold, its to the backplate of the housing...the piece held on with 5 bolts...
