Welded D70 2 piece open carrier

Thought I'd show yall to some UGLY welded up D70 rear end spider gears in a 2 piece open carrier. It's a 4.88 D70B in my 74 W300, wannabee gas pulling truck. I guess it might resemble a mini-spool? So far I've backed up to curb so to speak in my yard and mashed the throttle, letting the dual wheels burn some rubber against the curb. Been around town and it's still holding :alien: . Time will tell, as will the sled I'm sure. Link to my photobucket: http://s859.photobucket.com/albums/a...ummins251/D70/

How does that feel going around a corner with duals?

Cheap and dirty... I love it. Did it come with 4 spiders? I think mine has only 2 in my open diff on the utility truck? Can't remember, I know the duallie's powr-lok has 4. It does looks just like a mini spool sort of.

Luke, Our rears with peg leg only have 1 pin. That is why I have blown 2 rears. All the power on 1 pin is to much and the carrier hole stretches out causing bad things to happen. Its not good when your doing 45 and the rears decide to stop turning. This split style with 2 pins is much stronger.

Right now the truck has bald 235/85/16's on it and it feels like it wants to bog the motor down a little if I try to just 'idle' it around a corner. I can only imagine what it would be like with some 'meats' on it.

From what I understand it's an old school 2 piece differential. Often mistaken for a powr-lokr or other locker just because of the 2 piece case and how it looks. I'm not sure if I want to weld the front end up just yet. It's got lockouts but they're not known for their strength. It's a Dana 70 front with odd ball 21 spline lockouts and outer shafts.
