Water temp gauge question???

So I have an an autometer water temp gauge I want to install soon, but its used and the previous owner cut the wire to the thermocouple. Im looking at it and it appears to be a solid copper wire in there...heres the question...can I solder the wire back together, or is it going to give me an inaccurate reading because of it?

i soldered a autometer water temp gauge for my nissan back together one time and it gave me a real inaccurate reading, not sure what kind of solder i was using though, there might be a mixture of solder you can use that would work, someone on here might know

If it is a mechanical gauge and the sender-wire has been clipped, then it will make a neat paper-weight.
