WAAAY Overfueling,...!

I just took a 1200 mile trip towng the 5th wheel to Pennsylvaina and back. The truck did great on the way there, tems ran at 180, EGT's never got over 825, and it got 14.5 MPG.

On the way home the truck slowly started to blow lots of black smoke, it is just dumping fuel, and not cleaning up, mileage droped to 10!

Before the trip I installed the stock injectors and actually liked how the truck ran better than the modified injectors.

So where do I start, does the pump loose adjustments? Starwheel moving on me? Injectors going bad?

I gotta get this thing fixed cause we are heading to Silver Lake Sand dunes on Friday.

Thanks!

The Turbo is good, I was keeping it under 20 PSI because I had a weak intercooler boot, If I hit 25PSI the boot would pop off. When it does, the EGT"S hit 1100 pretty quick!

I now have that fixed and can hit 30 PSI but it stil does not clean up, and there is no more power, just dumping smoke!

The EGT probe is after the turbo, just on the top side of the downpipe, and is a new setup.

Definitely double-check the intercooler boots again, but I guess if you can hold 30 psi its not a very big boost leak....if your still blowing black smoke after spoolup I would say that getting your injectors tested would be a good step, I had a dribbler that took my milage down to 14 and produced a grey haze that followed me around...good luck

Sounds good Thanks, I have been tweaking the pump a little and it seems to have cleared up, I turned out the fuel screw and it is a lot better. I just don't understand how it would gradually get worse like that, Unless like you say something is going bad with my injectors and turning down the pump makes them not work as hard. However I didn't loose any power,..?

that egt sounds low.
I am using a Ford Superduty intercooler, it quite a bit bigger than the Dodge IC. I would assume that is the reason for the EGT's

Ill put some miles on it today, and tow with it again this weekend, and see how it does.

Any other input,....?

You might take a look at the suction side of the fuel system. I had an intermittant air leak on the suction side which created similar issues. Truck ran OK until I called for power then it would lay down and smoke. A piece of clear hose just ahead of the lift pump will show bubbles if it's pulling air.

Ya like 1985 said if your egt probe is post turbo then expect temps to actually be aprox 200-250 deg hotter. This puts your numbers around about right. You also should have seen a fairly big increase in EGT's when your truck started smokeing. Was the locking nut tight on your fuel screw when you adjusted it after your trip?
