VIN tells an interesting story

both of the shops that have worked on my truck have complained about receiving the wrong parts from distributors

the current shop ran my VIN for NYS inspection purposes and it came up as a GASSER

EDIT it, only a tool like me could have overpaid for a "restored" 1st-gen and then sunk thousands more into it, just to find out that it was re-powered at some point in the last nineteen years

that's one important factoid that the CarFax didn't uncover

Does it list the old owners names? Maybe try looking them up and ask a few questions.

I believe if no police report was filed or anything reported to insurance, it wouldn't show up on a carfax.

Most likely rust issues made a cab swap needed.

They gave me the wrong parts for my 2002 24v truck from the vin.
In my opinion: Morons work at part stores

You can check the VIN numbers on the frame locations to see if they match. It's unlikely that all of your VIN numbers on the body and frame match if somebody "restored" it using used parts.

The "C" in the VIN IN '91 indicates a diesel. A typical number would be:
1B7KM26C5MS999999

Yes, 8th digit is "C" or "8" on Cummins trucks.

Yeah, but when I did that I kept the original dash; that's where the VIN tag lives. Rest of the cab numbers were effectively invisible...
cheers,
