verify my Autometer selections

bought an '89 D350 yesterday...bought it from the guy that purchased it in '89 with 13 miles on it, and it's bone stock...

ordered a BHAF already, and he had a set of stacks he had never installed, that I'm gonna work on in the next week or so...I know I've gotta get it to breathe first...

before I start tweaking the pump, or anything else like that, I know I gotta put some gauges in it...

I want to do four: EGT/Boost/Tach/Fuel Pressure

looking at the Autometer Z-series (really want Phantom, but they don't seem to have a 2-1/16" tach)...

having never had a diesel, I've read quite a bit on here the last two days, but want to confirm the part numbers...to make sure I'm making the right decisions...

Tach: Autometer 2697
EGT: Autometer 2654
Boost: Autometer 2616 or Autometer 2617
Fuel Pressure: Autometer 2612 or Autometer 2663

is the tach a simple install on a diesel?

they also have a 2653 for the EGT, but I think the 2654 is the same gauge but includes the thermocoupler?

is the 0-35 Boost gauge enough, or do I need the 0-60 (can't imagine needing the 0-100)

do you use the Electrical or Mechanical Fuel Pressure gauge? (and is 0-100 the right one...I figured 0-15, wasn't enough, and honestly wasn't sure about the 0-30)...

it's a 5-speed, so I'm guessing I don't need the tranny temp gauge...with the way I'm mounting them, there is possibly room for a 5th gauge...is there another one worth getting?

Thanks.

we'll...after some more reading, I'm altering the plan...

going with the 2654 EGT, the 2617 Boost (0-60), ditching the fuel pressure for now, and getting the alternator tach made for a diesel, the 2888...

the tach is a pedestal mount, and I'm picking up a two-gauge pillar pod to mount the Boost and EGT...

assuming those show up this week, I'll get them in soon, and get a baseline dyno...

then, I'll install the BHAF and exhaust, the Smokey Pin and the 3200 spring, tweak the pump....and get another dyno run...

gonna be a different world from my last Dodge truck...I had an '02 1500 5.9L (gas) that dyno'd 208RWHP/290RWTQ when I bought it, 413RWHP/486RWTQ when I sold it...

I'm guessing I will see less HP and more TQ with the CTD...

Way to go Greg. Sounds good to me so far. 413rwhp is tough, but the 486rwtq is simple. For future reference the stock lift pump fuel pressure spec is 3-5psi after the fuel filter. The best FP gauge if you wanted one would be 0-30psi for when you upgrade to a low pressure piston lift pump. It operates around 13-18psi.

thanks for the info...

any concerns in doing this mods at ~260K? I know the engine is just getting broken in (or at least that's what everybody tells me)...but wasn't sure if there was anything to look out for when I'm in there making the first couple mods?

I keep seeing discussion on 16 vs 18 vs 21 housings...and I believe I recall that the later 1st Gens had the bigger housings (which isn't desireable). I'm out of town without the truck for the week (which is why I'm ordering goodies to be there when I return) and can't look at the casting...what is the most likely housing size on an '89 D350?

Thanks.

18.5 cm housing for you. Most will tell you that a 16cm is no real upgrade.
