ventshades

I bought some stainless vent shades for my doors today BUT im not sure weather they go over or behind the rubber trim along the top. I tried to place it behind the rubber but my window wont quite go all the way up almost but its not seating up in the channel on top. anyone have these or know how to correctly install?

Ill let you know i just ordered some at work. I should have em in a couple days. I have some of the smoke ones that go on the outside they're nice but i like the chrome ones better. Im losin in the end because I just bought the smoke ones and put em on when i got the truck but i found the stainless ones so now im probably going to take the smoked AVS ventshades off and unload em cheap.

VentShade Installation Issues

I just recieved a set of stainless ventshades for my 93' as a X-Mas gift. I started to install these........already becoming a PITA to get the little screws started into the window channel. The screws must go through the ventshade, rubber/felt window gasket, and then the window frame sheetmetal. Does anyone have experience installing these? Maybe some tips for ease of installation?

ill see if i can take pics of mine and see if i can upload em in the next day or two. and you should use a drill bit to drill pilot holes. That'll make the taske much much eaisier. The stainless ventvisors are designed to go between the weather stripping and the metal door frame.

Yeah, I used a small drill bit to make a pilot hole. The screws provided in the package seem kinda short. I just seem to have trouble getting the screw to start taking a bite in the pilot hole. I have the thickness of the ventshade, weather stripping, and metal to go through. I would like to see pics of someone else's installation.

Hhhmmm.......interesting. Yeah, the weatherstripping/felt is intergrated into one piece on the 1st gen Dodge's. So......... I take it just pull out the weatherstripping and simply screw the new ventshade into place, afterwards just stuff the weatherstripping back into place?

Yeah, my new ventshades have 3 "pre-drilled" holes on them. Included is a small bag of sheetmetal screws. I was able to carefully un-snap the upper weatherstripping and pull it down out of the way. Next, I used a cordless drill and drill bit to drill a pilot hole into the sheetmetal (door frame). I guess I need to physically bolt on the ventshade with the 3 screws before I tuck&snap the weatherstripping back into place.

Whenever I am messing with something like that, I pre-thread the holes with a similar-sized hex-headed sheet-metal screw, one long enough for easy handling, then I remove the hex-screws and install the correct ones.

Every stainless vent-shade I ever saw went against the sheet-metal, not over the weather-strip.

Where are you guys finding the good stainless ones??; all I see anymore are those stick-on plastic ones.

Are the Chevy ones identicle to the Dodge ones, or just close enough to work ??

Thanks.
