Vent tube

Can someone enlighten me on what goes on the Engine Vent tube thats on the drivers side near the back of the engine? It looks like it takes a 3/4 inch hose But did cummins put a breather of some sort on the Hose or was it just a hose running down to keep Residual blowby oil off the bell housing?
Thank you,
BB....................

Re:Vent tube

Just met a guy with a 99 2500 - he had an overflow can mounted with the vent hose connected into it & a breather on the top of the can like a valve cover breather!! Good idea right? I have tuns of oil splattered on my front end from the original set up with just the vent tube. I think I'll try to rig some sort of containment for this hose like what I saw. Any objections?? Problems that can come from this???
Thanks All
