VE tech question.

Has anyone messed with the mechanical advance on the VE pump? I'm pretty sure that if I could increase the amount of advance by several degrees that I would make more power at the altitudes I run (5,000 to7,000 ft).

To advance timing you need to loosen the three nuts holding the pump to the front gear case - they are on the pump side - and one holding the pump to the rear mounting plate. You will need a "U" or "S" shaped 13MM wrench to reach them - the one on the back of the pump is 10MM and easy to get to. Then you can rotate the pump toward the engine - this will advance the timing. Most suggest about 1/8" to start then see how she runs. Be careful once you get the power you want when you are running cold - the KSB solenoid advances timing about 5 degrees when cold and you can create excessive internal pump pressures and you'll wind up with a fuel leak on the backside of the pump. You might also see a drop in boost but an increase in power.

Hope this helps.

I'm not talking about the static pump timing, I'm talking about the mechanical advance that is built into the VE pump. Is it able to be modified?

I have never heard of anyone trying it. I guess you could try different springs or something, but dont know what there is to gain. I believe that the internal advance is 10*.

It would be nice to get 12-14* so that you could retard it to quiet down the rattle at idle but still have the correct total advance.

I'm guessing an air packer would be a turbocharger.

I dont know what the specs of the cam are - diesel cams seem to be top secret. It does work though.

That's air packerS. I decided to try two of them at the same time.

My new FGI (fart gas injection) technology seems to be working well. It wasnt supposed to be introduced to the public so soon, however. The only problems seems to be timing - its flash point is so low that it ignites too soon and makes a loud 'knock' sound.

Do you have a web site for DD?

I guess the knock, followed by the 10' blue flame might be a dead givaway!
