ve pump question

I have a question on my brothers truck, 92 cummins auto 2wd 35xx,xxx was an old mayflower truck, when we brought it home the od didn't work so it was a slow ride on the interstate 55 mph almost wide open for 8 hours almost straight. We fixed the od and then about a month later pulling a trailer the throttle stuck but not because of the cable or anything it was in the pump we disconnected the cable and tried to force the throttle lever back but no go wait 10-20 minutes and the lever would work its way back after it sat not running. also it was only under load, seemed like the pump would get pressurized then once the pressure bled off the lever would come back to idle. any one have similar problem??? also it wasn't like it was running away because it never climbed just would hang. Thanks for any help.

Do a search, there is a gent from Canada that just got a new Pump recenly from that recall. Safety recalls NEVER expire. Go to the site, put your vin in and see. Cannot hurt and you may get a new IP installed free...Mark

All the throttle shaft is connected to is the governor spring, so it seems to me the throttle shaft must be seizing up somehow in it's bore/bushing, then coming loose when the pump cools.

...or there are some parts out of place in your pump.

we have the pump off and the top off.
Find anything interesting?

nope nothing just the norm it looks like...when i pulled the linkage off the top the throttle shaft droped so i lost the indexing i was wondering if the bushing was bad in it but the throttle shaft felt good in the bushing. ours doesn't go to wot it just hangs if we are pulling a trailer and we have it wot and then back out the rpms drop to say 2000 and hangs doesn't climb doesn't drop. if you catch it early enough say your wot and back out and it hangs at 1500 you shut it off and it will drop back to idle after 5 minutes if you wait till it hangs at 2000 tring to push you through every light and you shut it off you might have to wait 20-30 minutes before it drops.

I would call the dealer and ask the requirements, without saying what I had already done. If they say that they have to install it, put it back on and plead ignorance, it may get you a new pump. I would IM BIGBULLY and see what they told him...Mark

I had to pull my pump to find the numbers. So when I first took it up to the dealer I had it in my hand. No big deal.

Once the Western Canadian manager gave the nod. I had my truck pulled up to the dealer and they installed the new pump. That is how the recall specifies it.

All I had to pay for was a new fuel filter.

Thanks for the info. I'll check and see if we can't get a new pump.

Click on "post #2" and it will tell you how the numbers work and what to look for. It's the recall notice itself.
