VE pump output pressure?

Put a pump back together for a buddy the other day.

He called me up today. Said he primed everything and motor ran good about 30 seconds (motor been sitting up for about 2 years) then died like it ran out of fuel,

He bled injectors, no start, changed lift pump with one off of his running truck, won't start. Ran a line from a separate tank to fuel pump to eliminate sucking air, no start.

I went over today, we start by bleeding injectors. I notice when you go to bleed then, it only spits fuel up about a foot. (My nephew bought a truck recently that sat for 8 years, when bleeding injectors it was spitting fuel 3-4 feet in the air)

While I'm no certified mechanic, and though it has been a while since I've been in a VE pump, I did not notice anything wrong when I had it apart. What I checked seemed to be in spec.

What am am I missing? We seem to have good fuel and pressure at pump from lift pump. Getting fuel to the injectors so shutoff solenoid seems ok.

Thanks for any help or ideas. I

FYI...my terms for the parts might be wrong..... There is a control collar inside the pump that has a socket in it and needs to sit with a ball from the control fulcrum, if that was not in place properly, or has somehow come out of place you will not build enough fuel pressure to pop the injectors. Just speculation on my part but if that did not get in place during the re-seal the collar could have been in place for the intial fire, then through the ever so smooth running of a cummins motor.......it rattled out of place and killed the injector pressure.

I have had this happen to me....very frustrating to figure out.

Thanks

Went over this morning to get pump, as throttle shaft seal leaks. (I changed it when I had it apart)

Might have found the issue (or part of it, he didn't have the woodruff key lined up and damaged it) but will definitely look at the collar when I change throttle shaft seal.

Edit: checked the collar while changing the shaft seal and everything looked good. Hopefully I can get the old key piece out, changed and the pump will be good to go
