VE issue. (long)

i have (i think) narrowed my issue down to the IP. in the last month or so i have had to replace the FSS two times, the first and i presume the original FSS was missing a little chunk off of the plunger, resulting in key off engine running issue. the second one lasted a week before it also lost a chunk in the same spot. so..... fixed the plunger (sanded the plunger down) problem gone. slowly after this issue the truck started acting different, it now takes TWO cranks of the key to start it. it always started in a half a crank before. also when you start it, it sounds good and tight for about 4 seconds.....then it "hiccups" and idles rough.
now i do burn home filtered oil/diesel mix. but the smoke in the last few weeks is ridiculous. But the EGT's are my biggest concern. if you are under a load they clime to 1200 FAST and would just keep going if you don't watch. you really have to baby it. and going up hill it's stupid hard to keep the temps in check. i have recently replaced the injectors (8 months ago), and it was running great. i tried to turn the full fuel screw down, but the last owner has some how made it impossible to turn..so while i have it off i will break it loose.
since all of this i have also noticed i have a slow small leak on the back of the timing cover under the pump.
i checked the turbo and it seems to be in order. boost under load hits 25. i pulled the top of the pump off (thought i would change my GOV. spring and clean and check everything out. as it turns out the screen in the return line banjo bolt had i bit of black rubber debris. i wonder if that was the issue? i also need to flush the pump out, i was wondering if there were any more filter screens or anything else anyone can think of to check while its a part?

thanks
Dustin

You could have a chunk of the FSS tip stuck in a delivery valve or an injector.

cracking the injectors one at a time gets a change in the idle. and for the most part power and idle (after driving) seem normal.

edit: it just seems that its getting a ton of fuel.
