Valve springs replaced??

I have a Pac-brake exhaust brake on my truck that I am going to remove. (It's already spoken for)

Just wondering how I can tell if my valve springs were changed and which ones? Im assuming the exhaust springs.

My buddy wants to put it on his truck. Would he need to change his valve springs?

Thanks

It's common for the exhaust valve springs to be upgraded to the so called 60# version when running an exhaust brake.

The Cummins 60# spring will look barrel shaped when compared to stock. It may also have a white stripe of paint down its side.

Here's a thread that goes through the typical valve spring swap-out. ~ https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=171288

Hope this helps. :

How well does an exhaust brake work on our non lock up auto? I was told that it would be a waste.

If your buddy has a 5 speed then he'll want to upgrade his valve springs. With my BD brake the instructions are to set it for 8-12 lbs. brake pressure at idle with the stock springs, and 20-25 lbs. with the 60# springs. On a friends CTD w/o the heavy springs I didn't think the exhaust brake was doing anything. No experience with what they are like in the auto tran.

do heavy duty springs have anything to do with performance, i mean just the springs, or are they just for higher RPM's and e-brakes?

Its on my auto right now and does nothing. Thats why im getting rid of it and to get rid of the stupid flap in the middle of the exhaust flow right off the turbo. Waist of money on a auto unless lock-up or low stall converter.
