What most people do is get a wastegated housing for the stock turbo, then get a second monster turbo.

About $400 bucks will get you an HT3B, which is a very effective turbocharger, and another $400 will get you something with a wastegate.

Then you need to do all the duct-work, which is material plus a whole bunch of man-hours.

You don't do any engine modifications in order to run turbo's; you'll just be able to run showerheads for injectors.

check out http://www.piersdiesel.com/ and http://www.bd-power.com/ both sell twin set-ups for 12v trucks. According to the price book BD Twins list out at $4795 CDN.(94-98 trucks, no listing 88-93). Dont forget the obvious fuel upgrades(injecters, fuel pin, piston pump, etc.) you will need to support all that air.

Head studs and o-rings are a must with twins. Stock head gasket + 70 psi of boost = antifreeze everywhere.

Well, I don't think those would quite count as "engine modifications", would they?

sweet thanks for the 2 cents, what do you guys think about getting a twin turbo set up off ebay, i have seen a few on their, also with the turbo i have know(12cm turbine housing/or my old 18cm housing, and a 56mm wheel and compressor housing) would that be a good turbo to use with twins, also what injectors would work well with twins? also would it bi benificial to get a little lower compression pistons?

When it comes to top turbos theres a bunch of stuff you can do...

Most of what is sold as "Twin Turbos" charge a whole lot of money for their pre-fitted pipes, so if you can get something welded together it'd be a few thousand cheaper...

There are currently no 1st gen twin kits to my knowledge so you will have to do some modifications atleast to the hot side piping and downpipe to make a 94-98 kit work in a 1st gen. If you make one from scratch you'll need some 4in. 90's for the cold piping. The hot piping can be made from a number of different parts or materials, but you will need flanges for the big turbo and a spacer for the top turbo to move it far enough away from the exhaust manifold. You'll also need an extra oil feed line and find a way to route the oil return for the turbos. If you plan on building yourself, you can plan on spending atleast 800-1500 dollars on misc. parts not including the turbos and 20+ hours in fabrication and fitting.
Pics of my twins are in my gallery and stomp also has some pictures of twins.

Swank has a bunch of twins pics from when he built his as well. If you're planning on building a set it's good to look at what other guys have built.

also, this is probably a really lame question, but would i have to use an intercooler for a twin turbo setup?would the lower compression pistons be better for twins, will my stock cam be okay, what injectors would be needed? when i build my engine im probably going to build it so it will handel twins and slowly set things up on it to make it twin friendly, such as find a way to get oil to he turbos, custom make some brackets, and find some cheap tubos on ebay, i already have my old tubo stuff, like the 52mm compressor housing and 18cm turbine housing, all i need is the center peice for the turbo, and probably a larger compressor housing. what do you guys think of this twin setup (one turbo with a 12cm turbine housing and 56mm compressor, and the other turbo with a 18cm turbine housing with a 60mm compressor housing, or could i use the stock 52mm housing) also does it matter which turbo is on top? sorry for such a long write. so many questions??????

Yes, definitely.

POD's at a minimum. DD4's would be better. It's hard to get too much fuel for twins on a 1st gen.

The first one would be OK on top, but you'd be better off with the 60/12 combo for the top turbo. Neither one is big enough for the bottom turbo. Like the Begle said, you need something like a BHT3B on the bottom. You have to put the ehxhaust through the small turbo first, that's why it's on top. Then the exhaust flows through the bottom turbo. On the intake side, air from the filter flows into the big turbo, gets compressed some, then flows into the small turbo to get compressed further. That way each turbo only has to make 30-35 psi.

dangit dave. i was thinking that chemical intercooling could take the place of a CAC. i have lowered my compression with just a head gasket, and not always happy with the results. unless your building an all out race truck, i wouldn't recommend low compression, just o-rings and studs. much more fun to be around.

wow thanks for all the help that basically cleared up 80% of my questions , so on the bottom turbo could i use the 18cm turbine housing and then use like a 60-64mm compressor housing, if there is such a thing as a 64mm housing. anywho would that work?, also how much boost can a single turbo take, for instance what if i went back to my 18cm exhaust housing, but upgraded to a 62mm compressor. would that be a good setup, and what psi could it handle? never mind about using the 18cm housing i just saw that the bottom turbo is usually a 26-32cm housing, wow

You will need a much bigger turbo on the bottom. Something like (as mentioned earlier) an HT3B or B2 would work. An WH1C/E hybrid with a HT3B or BHT3B is a common setup. You will want to wastegate the top turbo, usually at something like 22-25psi. I'm sure swank will chime in again soon to clear it up better than I did.
