Turn signal gremlin on '93 D250

Right turn dash indicator is on steady when lights are turned on. All bulbs are good as is the new switch. Turn signals work, although somewhat slowly. Swapped flashers to no effect. Right side marker lamp is always out except when the 4-way flasher is going, then the right side marker lamp flickers on and off, but out of sync with the rest. When the lights are out and the right turn signal is on, the left turn lamps (front and rear) also also light up slightly. Is there another ground involved other than the one on the centre firewall or the one on the drivers side left of the radiator?

Check and make sure all the bulbs are grounded in the socket. The sockets can corrode and open the ground then things go wonky.

Yes it would seem to be a grounding issue, but where? Cleaned front and rear sockets. From lamp caps to socket ground, resistance is .3 ohms or so. Socket to negative terminal just over 1 ohm. I gather the side marker lamps get to ground through the turn signal circuit somehow. Where do the ground leads on the turn signals physically go to ground? Are they spliced together somewhere? ...Lots of work and no joy so far.

If you go to Geno's you can get a .pdf of the FSM for your vehicle. The FSM has very good wiring diagrams which will help immensely.

Those electrical gremlins can be some of the most frustrating AND elusive!!!

Do you have trailer wiring?

KRB, it's funny you said that about the trailer wiring as that is what happened to me on my 93.. turned out to be the the round 4 prong receptacle on the truck. I opened the little door on it and it was completely full of green gunk causing it to back feed.

KRB....why yes I do have a trailer hitch. I will check that out thoroughly once the monsoon conditions here let off. I have a two-car garage, but that would be for two Honda civics I think. Have to flatten the mirrors just to nose in. Also, I haven't got the 1/4 acre in front for manoevering the backside in.

Worth a look see. Most is marginal anyway. Might be your culprit.

Deleted trailer wiring and side marker lamps. The side marker lamp circuits were the problem. Converted all running lights/turn signals to led and wired the new led oval side marker lamps parallel with front turn signals. All is good and bright now. Thinking of installing separate rear turn signals in top third of taillight fixtures. Isolate the turn function from the brake/running light.

Glad you figured it out. Thanks for letting us know.
So the LEDs work just fine in those circuits as plug & play?

Yep. Had electronic flashers already. They must have been LED-ready because they used to flash at about 1 Hz and they continue to do so without issue.
