Which turbo?

I'm still in the learning process about turbos. I have been reading about people swapping out the 21cm turbo in favor of something else. I'm considering changing mine out and I'm not sure which turbo would best suit my truck. All of my trucks mods are in my sig. This truck is my daily driver and I tow a toyota rockcrawler whenever I get a break from school to wheel.

Also, I would like to know what is involved in completing the turbo swaps ya'll suggest. I like to know everything that is going to be involved before I start a project.

Thanks.

Your truck should have a 18.5 housing on it, which I wouldnt change. Instead, spend the money on a compressor upgrade.

93's have 18.5cm
91.5's and most 92's have the lagmaster 21cm

I'd try to find a 05-07 He351 turbo, its not a direct bolt up though.

Gillett diesel makes the 60mm stage 3 kit for the H1c, up 4mm from stock, lil lower egt and more power, more whistle too

What work is involved in the 60mm stage 3 upgrade for the H1c? Pretty simple?

Maybe you should just leave it alone for now.

So my turbo is a H1c...correct?

I would like to keep the upgrades simple and not have to do alot of modifications. I think I might be interested in the Gillett upgrade. Is it pretty straightforward?

Thanks for ya'lls help.

I just put an hy35 on my truck and i love it so far! it is off of the 01 and 02 24 valve autos. It has a 9cm housing so it spools really really quick!!! I am runnin 30 lbs of boost and i used to only run about 25 with my h1c with the 21cm housing. It is an upgrade, but i think i will outgrow this turbo too.

Thanks for all the advice. I checked out Gilletts site and I believe I will probably go with that in the near future.

I see you have a pyro in there. How hot is the exhaust gettin? If it isnt getting hot you can leave the turbo alone. If you plan on big injecters the 60mm cold side wont be enough.

As far as my egt's they are...500 degrees at 45mph and 800 degrees at 70mph. My pyro is post turbo so I should probably add around 200 degrees.

Also, I installed Tim's Cooler Tubz kit last. What an awesome product! I noticed a 100 degree egt drop at 70mph. However, I notice a whistle near WOT. Also, my boost readings was 29 at WOT now it has dropped to 25. What could be causing this??? I went over my clamps and they were all tight. Shouldn't my egt's be alot higher if I had a boost leak?

Thanks.

You lost boost because you lost some restrction. Contrary to popular belief, really high boost is not something to brag about.

25psi is just about the end of the H1C's map range. After that, you're just blowing hot air.
