Question turbo??!!

ok there is nothing wrong with my turbo, it works fine and everthing is good, but would i gain a lot of power, by putting a second gen 12v turbo in it, or even a 2nd gen. 24v turbo in it, i can get just about any turbo from those trucks for about 150$$, and i was just wondering if it would work, ad if it did, would i gain a lot??

For $150 it's a good deal. It won't make a huge difference on an auto, but it will spool up quicker and cool better than the stock turbo. You will probably not gain any power; on a diesel, air doesn't add much power until you're overfueled.

The 12v turbo is the one you want.

You'll have to move the downpipe (or the whole exhaust system) about an inch back. You won't need the wastegate until you turn the fuel up some. It should be a simple, straightforward swap.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the turbine housing, as well as the gasket for the oil drain.

The wastegate on a stock HX35 will be set around 18-22 psi. You'll probably want more than that, so you'll need either a boost elbow or a manual boost controller. You can find manual boost controllers on ebay (I like the one from lower_shores_performance).

Or you can readjust the wastegate actuator. I know you have to take the thing partially apart, and turn the rod one way or another....... beyond that, I dont know.

That's another option, but I think on these wastegates the threads are pinched. I'm not sure; I'll check tomorrow on my yet-to-be-installed wastegate actuator.
