trying to make a good 400-500hp DD
Well know that i have settled in to my summer home (Iraq
) i have had some time to set up a parts list for the truck when i get home. I am trying to make a good 400-500hp
daily driver like the title says. Being a gear head in the army all i work on is diesel trucks(or JP8
) so it think i got a good setup going but any ideas would be great

Looks good Wettstein! However, I think you're going to need much bigger injectors than POD's to make the sort of HP you're looking for. I'm thinking DDP Stg 3's/Scheid 6 x 0.016 etc. I would also be looking in to a new exhaust manifold, unless it comes with the twins kit.
One glaring omission I noticed was a pyro!
I read your sig. and you don't mention one. I don't know if you have one or not, but that should be the very first thing you buy, (even though I don't have one yet...
)
Hope your tour goes well. Heck only knows why we're still over there, but that's for another forum. Bend those wrenches, Soldier!
Oh, and good luck with the wife...

Oh, and good luck with the wife...

thanks for the input, i will look in to some bigger injectors. Yea i need to update my sig. I got a pyro and boost on the A piller. Its awsome being a cummins man in the army, when there is anything wrong with the 6k of 10k fork lifts they send me to fix them( they are both powered by 5.9s if only could get some parts off those)
wish it worked like that. And all those engines are p-pumped second gen setup
yes the twin setup come with the tree peice manafold, and thanks for the help on the injectors. the ddp stage 3s look like the way to go

POD's will make 400+ hp. The jump from 400-500 with these pumps is pretty big... Build yourself that combo with the pods, see how you like it, then if you want more power, and think you can tune the smoke out of it, try some bigger injectors.
It will be hard to tune the bottom end smoke out with that fuel pin as well.
And dont fire ring the head, thats not what I would consider a street setup. O-ring instead.
And maybe think of a 4000 rpm tach.

what is the differance between o-ring and fire-ring? and i have looked all over the web for a tach is in the 2" range, the 3000 by isspro is the only one i could find.

1. Cobra Twin Turbo Kit stage1 or 2 Go with the stage 4 (S300 based 62/14), it'll keep things much cooler with less back pressure.
2. Lucas POD injectors Way too small IMO. Go with some custom 6x.016" EDMs
3. KDP Kit A piece of coat-hanger wire works just fine.
4. 3200 RPM VE Governor Spring Shorten it by two loops and stretch back to its original length
5. 12v Fluid Dampener w/tach sensor bracket
6. ARP Head Stud Kit 12V Don't dismiss that from A1

(need to call on this one to see what is included) They are not recommended for a DD as they need routine mantainence. Go with O-rings.

Going with the stage-4 turbo setup will keep the EGTs below 1400* (with a decent after-cooler and cold-air intake) at WOT for the most part based on my experience. I've run the stage-1 kit and it was hot with DDP4s (@ WOT).
Be sure to go with some Cummins 60# valve springs or better.
-> An aftermarket cam will go a long way toward ensuring your goals and keeping it cool. With a stock cam, you'll see around 65+ psig boost. With an aftermarket, the boost will drop about 10psig, or so I've seen.
Don't overlook some basic head porting (around the valve pockets at least).
With that and good tuning, you should see around 450 ~ 500 on a dyno
running a manual transmission. I'm right at 450 with a similar build and a non lock-up automatic.
Be sure to tighten-up your drivetrain.

Hope this helps and Thanks for what you do.
