Truck Values

I think I want a 91-93. When I look at blue book values it seems I should be able to find one with about 100,000 miles, manuel trans, in good shape for well under $10,000.

All the trucks I have seen for sale are up around 200,000 miles in this price range. Is the blue book off, or are guys wanting to much for thier trucks?

Bought mine about this time last year for $4600 with 207k. Pics are in my gallery. Rust free AZ/TX truck with minor dings. A really nice one is worth more. If mine had better paint and body I'd want around $8000 if I was crazy enough to sell it.

The blue book doesn't seem to take proper account of the diesel in pricing. Even a totally clapped out rolling junkpile of a CTD that runs good is going to cost you $3000, so subtract $3000 from the prices you're seeing. If the prices are reasonable for a gas pickup after you subtract $3000, then you're doing OK.

Unhappy How much for this ..????

OK so if you figure around $8,000.00 for a good one, then what would you think a 92 W350 X-cab, with 140,000 miles that is VERY VERY CLEAN, worth ??? It's an AUTO 4x4 (W350) needs NOTHING...???? Just a curious......canuck

Well, 4x4 is worth more, mileage is low, I could see it being worth $10k (real U.S. dollars, not those bits of scrap paper you folks to the north call money ) to the right buyer.

Angry Easy there "WANNADIESEL".....

MR "WANNADIESEL", I was just curious as too what people thought these trucks were worth.....Since this is an AMERICAN site and 95% of the GENTALMEN on here are AMERICAN, I figured all price's were in AMERICAN dollars, and since there is about 250-285 million people in the UNITED STATES and only 28 MILLION in my country of CANADA if I were looking for a real nice clean RUST FREE truck, I would search in the USA..... Which I did and when I found the correct truck I bought it and payed for it with AMERICAN money NOT those piece's of scrap that we call money, yes it cost me more......You suggested a price of 10 k ...( did I say that right 10 k, I know that's an American saying, we hear it on our battery powered radio on Saturday nights when me and the wife and kids gather around in the "IGLOO" to listen to "THE GRAND OLE' OPERY" ) and I figured that was pretty close to the top, but I also thought that if the right guy finds the right truck, he might pay almost anything, but that is just a CANADIAN's opinion.......have a good weekend and a better day tomorrow...... signed.... NORTH OF THE BOARDER

Hey, mellow out, I was just ribbin' ya! I think you underestimate the Canadian population on this board, I'd guess close to 15% of the active posters on here are Canadian, and a good portion of the vendors are Canadian companies. I don't think Canadians are backward or ignorant. 1st genners Bushy and Lil Dog have been and continue to be great sources of information on this board. I was merely making a joke about the exchange rate between Canadian and U.S. dollars. Was I close on the truck value? You were obviously the right buyer if it's the perfect truck for you. I also had to go South to find a truck I liked and could afford. Sorry I offended you. Maybe I should have used a different smiley. Have a good day, eh?

Glad to know I'm not the only fellow who opens his mouth and inserts his foot . . .

Maybe we should price everything out in Euros -- It would make the numbers smaller for all us Americans .

Prices really vary by area, and 4x4 trucks seem to command more value than one would expect, with 4x4 manuals being pretty rare, thus commanding a higher re-sale value than one would otherwise expect. Kinda like a pink elephant: Can't find one if you want one, can't get rid of one if you got it.

Yeah that is about the exchange rate........I paid $12,000.00 US DOLLARS for my truck with 134,000 miles on it and like Plainjane said, I think it was worth every AMERICAN DOLLAR........I could or maybe even should make a comment but ....well.......nope, I will keep my mouth shut........I guess I was thinking for a while that maybe I paid too much.....but I could'nt find what I wanted anywhere, so when the truck I wanted came along......I guess I bought out of passion and NOT, out of need or maybe even sensibility.......oh well guess thats what makes me a CANUCK......right WANNADIESEL......eh !!! or should I say "PLUM"

Hey, if you got the truck you wanted for a price you were willing to pay, that's I didn't buy what I needed or what was sensible, either. I guess for me "sensible" would be a little econobox from Korea, I don't tow anything and rarely have anything in the bed. Everybody I know though I was nuts to pay $4600 for a "worn out smelly old truck" that was 1,800 miles away. I knew what I wanted and what I could afford to pay for it, same as you. And I couldn't find it locally, all the local trucks were rusted out piles of crap. See, we're like two peas in a pod. Also, maybe it's a Canadian expression or maybe I'm just thick as a plank, but what does "plum" mean?

Less than a month ago there was a 1991? D250 reg cab being sold down in the Miami, FL for $17?0 . Wasn't exactly a "rolling junkpile" but it hadn't been driven since the seller bought it to install the Cummins in his boat. Never did, so put it up for sale. Didn't last long at that price. Claimed it ran "excellent". Maybe Cummins aren't worth as much in FL?

I bet not! The guy must have really wanted to move it. I spent 9 months looking for my truck and I feel pretty confident that $3,000 is generally the minimum you can expect to pay for a good running CTD powered truck that you can license and drive on your local roads. At that price you're buying the Cummins and getting a beater pickup for free. My point is that nobody (KBB, Edmunds, etc.) seems to have a clue as to how well the diesel engine option holds its value, so if you go around expecting to pay what "the book" says these trucks are worth, you'll feel like you're getting ripped off. Basically however much extra the diesel option cost over the gasser is how much extra you should generally expect to pay over a gasser in similar condition regardless of miles. Suburbanite, if you come across a deal like that again, buy it, you can make some money on a truck like that.

Yeah, I did seriously consider buying it ... but ... the fact that it hadn't been on the road for, I don't know how long, made me decide against it. Don't have the knowhow to properly evaluate the condition of something like that & really didn't want to be saddled with a pile of poop. Really liked the idea of getting into a Cummins so cheaply tho, to find out if it was for me or not. Have already been disappointed with the POS that passes for a diesel in a GM truck so really don't want to go thru that again.

If you thought that was a deal, just this past Saturday, a Cummins B6 series engine AND an Allison tranny went for $50 at an auction I attended. That's no typo: $50!!! All I remember off the engine 'plate' is that it was a B6 & that it was rated for 80HP @ 500rpm. Condition was of course "as is".

I agree that the 'book' doesn't properly reflect the actual added value of the diesel but luckily for me (hopefully) some folks don't know that.

"PLUM"....let that be the "WORD OF THE WEEK" here on "DTR".......CANUCK....eh !!!
