truck tried to die today

I had just picked up dad from dropping his car off to get some body repairs, and was in a hurry to get him to Erie. it would fire a few times then die, fire and die. Spewed out a little black smoke. Jumped out and grabbed the hotwire I made minutes before leaving the house to put it on the shutoff solenoid, and the blue wire was ready to fall off. I tried to close the connector up some but it almost fell right back off. My shutoff has two tabs on it, so it got two wires hooked to it til I could get home and replace the connector.

What does the second wire on the side of the pump do?

The second wire powers the KSB solenoid.

Oh OK. I bet that helped when I hooked that back up. It's the connector I scavenged to get home the other day when the electrical system took a dump. I did that and the spring/linkage swap at the same time. When I got home yesterday I put new connectors on that and the shutoff wire. I cut the plastic off the crimp connectors and put dual-wall (watertight) shrink tubing on them.

I bet the poor or non-existent connection there is part of why it seems to have more power now.
