Question Transmission Question

Can I change a '90 non o/d tranny to a newer model. Also this truck is supposed to have 307 gears,but he says top end is 74mph. Soes that sound right? Thanx

Yes. I plan on swapping out my 727 in favor of a 47rh (which has a lock up converter). Here is a link to the thread in the stick about it. JD730 has done this to his truck and he gives a great explanation of what you will need.

Than x, he says this truck has the 47rh, but no o/d. Where do I go from that?

Is the o/d not working? All the 47rh are a hydraulic controlled with a lock up converter and o/d and came in 94 an 95 then they switched to a 47re which is electronically controlled. The 518 o/d are called the 46rh I believe. and the non i/c trucks came trough with the 3 speed 727 trans.

I think I said this right and if not I'm sure someone will correct me.

You said it right, but in all cases the overdrive and lockup are controlled by electric solenoids, but I don't know how that link got screwed up. Your's goes to picture.

Oh and 74mph sounds about right for a stock truck with 3.07's and a 727.
