Transmission Issues
My tranny started slipping excessively bad yesterday. Does anyone know which tranny i have ? its a 93 d350. Do you thing a band adjustment would help?
It's an A518 otherwise known as a 46RH
They're tough as nails but a couple of things happen.
1. Fluid doesn't go to the torque converter in park. If the check valve leaks (common, and harmless) the fluid in the pan can be several quarts higher than it is when running. Always slowly cycle the transmission through all the gears, then leave it in neutral with engine running while you check your fluid level. Low fluid will make it not shift.
2. The 5.9 is known to occasionally shake the screws out of the valve body of the 518 transmission. That, of course, makes it act goofy.
If you drove it much while slipping, you may have damaged it.
