Transmission Help
Transmission Help
My automatic has a had a problem ever since the day I bought the truck, Now I'm fed up with it.
I have no overdrive!
The only time I can get it is when I travel 60 MPH in 3rd gear, let off the fuel completely, then it will shift into overdrive. Get back into the fuel and it will stay in Overdrive, until you lay on the fuel hard at around 55 MPH, then the process is repeated all over again.
I have adjusted the TPS, and did seem to do a little better, but it still sucks!
Also, On the throttle linkage their are 2 other cables that run off of it.
The one closest to the motor goes into some black saucer shaped thing with wires coming out of if.
The one in the middle runs to the transmission area. Is this some sort of kickdown Cable to tell the Tranny to shift into passing gear?
Also, On the fuel peddle, about 3/4 way down, it has a "tough" spot,
feels like a passing gear would on an old automatic Ford.
Thanks for any help!

I had a TPS that seemed to "reset" itself every time I adjusted it. Try cycling the throttle and see if it stays in adjustment. You can also look in the sticky and wire up a potentiometer if you'd like.
The cable that goes to the transmission is the Throttle Valve cable, or kickdown cable. Here's a site to adjust it http://www.dens-site.net/Dodge_CTD/Kickdown_Adjustment/
The fuel pedal does seem to stiffen slightly when it starts moving the TV cable.

Thanks, that seems to be the help I needed.
I checked the TPS adjustment, and it was exactly where I set it to a month ago.
I will try adjusting my kickdown cable to see if it helps any.
Does it seem that the kickdown would be out of adjustment?
Thanks!

Honestly, no, I don't think the kickdown cable would cause loss of OD. OD problems are usually caused by TPS or VSS. The speedometer works, right? If so, I can be of no further help
; you'll have to see if someone else will chime in here...

Try wiggling the small wire harness to the TPS.That harness gets old and contact is hit and miss.Use to be avaiable from D.C. for $15.00 or so.I put up with 2 years of on and off O/D on my 93W250 and read about the harness.Fixed mine right up.
