trans upgrade questions

so i have been at a crossroads for awhile about transmissions. i want a stick but i dont want to go on a easter egg hunt for parts. i like my trans but i hate not having a overdrive and i dont think i want a 47rh because of the cost of a good TC and the fact that there is more to go wrong so i think i have decided to stick with my 727, build it strong and later down the road buy a gear vendors.

so any imput on that subject would be nice but my main question is besides drilling the vavle body for fluid pump in park and a stout TC are there any little tricks i should do to my trans while its out? what kind of clutches are good? i have decided if i go auto i wont do much more then my hx40 and pods

THANKS

This really doesn't have anything to do with your tranny, but I would stay away from POD's. They are a very dirty, and hot injector. You will lose mpg's but gain a whole lot of smoke. They also haze at idle. I would look into either EDM's or Extrude Honed injectors. They will run cleaner, smoke when they are supposed to, and if you keep your foot out of it, you shouldn't notice a big difference in mpg's.

If you can afford $300 I would get a steel planetary. The trans should be pretty bulletproof after that, the converter, and some good clutches

You wont need the billet input, IMO. Alto Red clutches are good. Buy a valve body or kit and a good converter. I also dont think the steel planetaries are $300, if I recall it was around $100, but I could be wrong. Maybe a good idea to go with a cummins 2nd gen flexplate, not sure if they work with the 727's or not.

I plan on getting my injectors extrude honed to 6X12's. I believe you will have to buy new injector tips because most companys won't use old ones. If I recall correctly, it should cost me around $300, not including tips. I don't think you have to send the whole injector off, just the tips, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
