What's an old 1990 worth?

Hello all -

I generally lurk in the 2nd gen area, as you can see with my signature. However today I ran across a 1990 2wd, AT Ram 250 LE in reasonable, completely stock condition, that had been traded in to a local Chevy dealer. This truck isn't immaculate, there's a few areas of rust on the rear over the wheel wells, some de-laming white paint (red & white two-tone) and it's been used, for sure. But it's completely stock, with about 175k on it (half of my '96's miles), with an automatic. I know it has the VP-style injection pump, and no intercooler. So how's the truck overall from a relaiblity standpoint? What are things to look for & should I go drive it to see how it is. I think the dealer's only asking $1995, maybe it's worth picking it up.

What's the general thought on these trucks, overall. It's original down to the nice, stock wheel covers. This isn't the best shot, but it may help to see it. Maybe it's a little too original....

I paid $2500 for my 1990 W250 4x4. It has 230,000 on it. The odometer was broke when i purchased it,and the previous owner said it was broke for about 4 years. I say if it starts good and has minimal oil leaks,it is a pretty good price. Mine is a 3 speed auto and i am getting about 18mpg. You may get 20 out of a 2 wheel drive truck. Hope this helps..Justin

I would offer him 1750 max. The dealer will otherwise have to send it to auction and he wont get anything for it there. The non IC trucks are great. They make a pretty easy 300whp with just pump tweeks and basics. Plus its still a 12v and will run forever.

Since it's at a dealer, I would start pretty low (500-700ish) and not go over the $1500.00 previously mentioned.

I know it has the VP-style injection pump...

These trucks have the VE injection pump, not the VP pump.

I say it looks like a $1700 truck to me If you could look at it, and get us more pictures, we can give you a better estimate. Was this truck listed on eBay, I think I saw it a couple days ago.

thanks for the update - wasn't aware of the VE vs VP pump - just know it's not electronic.

I'll see if it was on ebay, I'll also try to drive it tonight. Have a friend who's into Chevy's (gas) who's possibly interested, he rebuilds Camaro's and is a little resistant just due to having to start stocking up on mopar parts. He would turn it into a hot rod in no time.

lol, non electronic is right. bosch VE pump, rotary pump very tunable/easy to work with

that truck has a bulletproof 3 speed auto (the ole 727) and a bulletproof rear end with a bulletproof engine, what could be better? id say offer him 1500$ for it. Some more pics would be nice, here in the 1st gen forum we have a "sticy" for EVERYTHING that goes wrong with these trucks and probably 25 articles on how to make upgrades to body and such, theres also a whole section in the sticky on performance mods as well .

You have to pay attention to the rain gutter on the front top of the cab, these rust out and leak and usualy ruin the floors, also look under the pass. and driver side floor boards to se if you see any holes. Buy the truck and you probably wont regret it!!

I have broken 2 of those bullet proof rear ends. Would be fine if you could buy parts for the 3.07.
